Mike Kropf is the Lead Photographer in charge of the visuals team at The Richmond Times-Dispatch in Richmond, Va., where he has covered the 2024 presidential race, Virginia's General Assembly, and sports from Nascar to March Madness.

After documenting the Covid-19 pandemic as a freelancer, the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in 2020, as well as the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial race, he joined The Daily Progress as a Staff Photographer where he photographed UVa sports, local elections and the 2022 shooting at UVa that claimed the lives of three students.

He has won 38 Virginia Press Association awards since 2019 including "Best In Show" in 2020, and his freelance clients include The Associated Press, Getty Images, multiple Division I universities, and a number of local media outlets.

With a bachelor's degree in photography, his work has been featured by The Washington Post, The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, CBS, Bleacher Report, Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Sacramento Bee, The Virginian-Pilot, The Daily Progress, The Free Lance-Star, C-VILLE Weekly, Charlottesville Tomorrow, The Farmville Herald and others.
